LAGUNA, Santa Catarina/Brazil - A strong offshore wind blew all night and the waves went dead flat in all Santa Marta Cape beaches, so a call was set for 10 am. At 11 o'clock, the contest restarted at Cigana Beach located just a few miles south of the main site, but small waves and strong winds allowed for just two heats to be run. The next call will be 7:30am tomorrow morning.

"We got everything ready to go after the best conditions, but the waves today are too bad everywhere due to the winds," said the Contest Director Mark Pulls. "We tried to finish the second round but with winds reaching the 25 knots and very small surf, we had to put the contest on hold after just two heats."

Surfer from Sao Paulo David do Carmo came close to break all the South to South Santa Marta Pro records on the second heat of today catching an 9,0 point ride and scoring a total of 16.67 points.

"The conditions are very difficult, but I came in for a training session at Cigana Beach at 6 am, and I think I was blessed by God as the best waves came to me during the heat," said a happy David do Carmo, which approved all the decisions the Contest promoters have being made. "I'm greeted by their decisions, always looking after the best conditions, turning this into a true mobile contest."

This Thursday was a day to revive the real spirit of surfing in the Cape of Santa Marta, the quest for the best waves today drove the contest to the paradisiacal Praia da Cigana surrounded by majestic sand dunes. As the day before on the Cardoso Beach left corner the heats were run without computer scoring tem, so the surfers had to do their best without knowing the scores or situation, surfing practically by instinct. The results were known only after the finish of each heat in the same way as the first professional contests held in Brazil in the 70's.

The quest for the best waves on the Santa Marta Cape restarts Friday, with the first call set for 7 30 am at Cardoso Beach.
